PARO: Paro is one of the most beautiful valleys in Bhutan. Shrines dot the landscape and graceful willow trees grow along the edge of the Paro River as it winds through fields and farmlands. The Paro Valley is the valley in which Buddhism first arrived in Bhutan, commemorated at the twin temples of Kyichu and Taksang, a hermitage-monastery clinging to a cliff high above the valley floor. The famous hermitage called Taksang, the "Tiger's Nest", is built into a sheer cliff face above the Paro Valley. Legend has it that the Tibetan Buddhist saint Padma Sambhava landed here after flying across the Himalayas from Tibet on the back of a tiger, hence the name tigers Nest. This historic valley lies beneath Jomolhari, one of the highest of Bhutan's Himalayan peaks and it's most sacred.
